Signature Bass pickups were made in-house, are hand-wound, and potted with epoxy resin to prevent micro-feedback. They are incredibly loud and clear.

There are three distinct models of pickup: Standard, Export, and Fender Spec. Each model of pickup has its own characteristic sound.

The Standard models are typically American with a powerful bottom end.

The Export models were designed for the UK market, have slightly less bass on the bottom, and a more nasal edge typical of the UK 80’s sound.

Fender Spec. pickups have different windings for the neck and bridge pickups, and sound much more like the 60's Fenders than anything Fender did after '75.

You will find the model number in the neck pocket of the body of the bass. The pockets were marked 1, 2, or 3 for the Standard model, Export models were marked EX2, and the Fender Spec. pickups were marked 4 or 4B.

You can see this marking on the photograph of the neck pocket, in this case 4B, which tells us that the pickups are Fender Spec.
